I’ve never really had just one birthday. My parents have been divorced pretty much my whole life, so that means that I’ve always had at least two. Now that I’m older, I have found a way to stretch it even further and I usually end up with at least a birthday week.
Moral of the story… I’m pretty spoiled. 🙃
Birthday #1 (December 10th)
This party was one of the best because it was also for Maddi and Venus. They both have birthdays the day before mine, which is totally weird but cool. It seems like a really strange coincidence to me, but it definitely makes the week more fun.
We got a bunch of family together and went for hibachi. It sucked being home for my birthday without Aaron, but the upside was going to dinner at places we usually can’t. Aaron is not about loud noises, obnoxious dining experiences, or food really…
I was worried about having dinner with such a large group of people, because someone always ends up feeling left out, but I think it went really well. I was happy to be around so much family all at once.
These chefs were intense. They wanted us all to be athletic and catch food in our mouths. As I recall, everyone was good at it except for Maddi and me.
Thankfully there are no pictures of me trying to catch broccoli in my mouth. The pictures of us trying to take a group photo are bad enough.
Thanks for catching the magic, Ryan.
Another thing that made this party the best: Venus made pineapple upside down cake. Always one of my favorites and she made it perfectly.
Birthday #2 (December 10-11th)
Ryan and I met up with some friends at Wiseguys after we had family birthday dinner. It wasn’t the worst night ever but I would definitely say that we have had more successful “parties.”
There was a weird vibe in the group, but we stuck it out, and eventually things started to turn around. We spent the night requesting really strange and embarrassing songs (The Shrek Soundtrack) that never ended up being played, taking shots, and hanging out.
The night ended as it usually does: Ryan, Craig, Mike, and I eating calories we don’t need and trying to get out of paying our bill. We ended up with a sweet discount and then we went to IHOP for more calories and a girl fight.
When we left IHOP the most magical thing happened. There was a blizzard! Snow for my birthday just like I had been saying I wanted for months.
Birthday #3 (December 12th)
It feels like I’m going to keep calling all of my little parties my favorite… but the 12th was a great day for me. I had been scared to turn 30 but I was finally getting excited.
I had dinner with Craig at a really fancy place. Like a really nice place…way beyond where we should be allowed. I was wearing a $10 shirt from F21…
It was delicious and I got to try Chilean Sea Bass for the first time. I will probably never get to go there again because they have no food for Aaron… So I really want to remember how good it all was. 😇
After dinner, we decided it was time to come back down to earth and go somewhere we could afford. Plus, we wanted Mike to come hang out too.
Birthday #4 (December 12-13th)
Weeeee! The night we rang in my 30th birthday. Craig, Mike, and I spent the night with Aaron’s mom at The Basement Bar.
I don’t even know… we did so many shots and I have no idea what they were, something about green tea I think? Then people sang to me, including Aaron who called me on the phone and sang with everyone else.
I had a really great night. It was casual and very fun. The only thing that would have made it better is if Aaron had actually been there. 💗
Birthday #5 (December 13th)
This party doubled as a birthday and goodbye party.
The sisters got together to celebrate before I had to fly back to California.
It was fun to see the girls and I think that they enjoyed spending some time with Maddi. We don’t all get together too often so this was a bit of a treat for everyone. We also got milkshakes afterwards. 😂
There was a little bit of birthday cake drama, so we ended up getting together the next day too. Not only did we have cake, we got Christmas stockings too.
My mother did this horrible thing where she bought us all the same candy though. Who does that? How are we supposed to trade and upgrade if it’s all the same, mother? Sigh… she’ll learn eventually I’m sure.
And thus ends my birthday celebration recap. Happy Birthday to me! Being thirty isn’t so bad. 😊
